Muskegon Water Filtration Plant

This $15.6 million Water Filtration Plant renovations and improvements project for the City of Muskegon was competitively bid and awarded to Muskegon Construction Company late in 2003 and is expected to be completed by October 2005. The project includes an existing sedimentation basin being converted into a pretreatment building; existing filter beds are being renovated with new filter drain blocks, filter media and backwash system; existing sludge ponds are being replaced with new concrete sludge frying basins; an old abandoned water intake structure is being converted into a recycle pump station; an auxiliary pump building (built in 1928) is being refurbished inside and out; several additional pumps are being added; existing overhead electrical power lines are being replaced with underground lines; and electrical service is being upgraded. The plant is to be kept in operation during all phases of construction and tie-ins.
